The EPL’s finest will be an action in European matches midweek, with the Champions League group stage kicking off, but it’s back to the Premier League for Gameweek 6 on the weekend. In Gameweek 5 Chelsea continued their poor start to the season with another loss, practically ending their title ambitions, which Manchester City notched up another win at the top of the table – they’re still get to concede a goal the league this season. All transfers and team selections need to be finalized by 11:45am (BST) on the 19th of September, 2015. Here are our top player tips for gameweek 6 of the Fantasy Premier League.
Top Player Tips
1) Aleksandar Kolarov £6.0m (Manchester City)
Our first player tip for gameweek 6 is Manchester City’s left back Aleksandar Kolarov. Kolarov has been second choice to fellow left back Gaël Clichy over the past few seasons, but an ankle injury to Clichy has given Kolarov an extended run in the starting 11 and he’s making good use of it. Manchester City are yet to concede a goal in the Premier League this season, 5 clean sheets from 5 matches. Kolarov is also a goal threat with his attacking runs down the left flank, and had a goal to his name this season as well. Kolarov’s a free kick specialist, and is always a change of bending in a goal with his left peg. He also has 10 bonus points already this season, bettered only by Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez. With Vincent Kompany expected to miss this weekend, Kolarov might be a safe transfer for some FPL managers looking to keep a City defender in their starting 11 this weekend. Gameweek 6 sees Manchester City at home to West Ham United, where they’ll be looking to bounce back from their disappointing mid-week loss to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League.
2) Christian Benteke £8.5m (Liverpool)
Our second tip for Gameweek 6 is Liverpool’s star summer signing striker Christian Benteke. Liverpool haven’t been there best this season to date, they have plenty of new signing which will take a while to gel – and they’re missing the influential Jordan Henderson in the center of midfield. Benteke has 2 league goals so far, including an overhead kick in gameweek 5 against Manchester United. But Liverpool now have two home matches on the bounce, first they’ll face newly promoted Norwich City in gameweek 6 followed by Aston Villa in gameweek 7. With Benteke scoring goals even when the team is not performing, two home matches against lower table clubs looks like a good chance for Liverpool to find some form and score a few goals over the next fortnight. Benteke is a goal scoring machine, but his odds are looking good for the coming weeks.
3) Xherdan Shaqiri £7.0m (Stoke City)
And lastly, our third and final player tip for gameweek 6 is another summer signing, this time Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri. Similar to Liverpool, Stoke have not achieve the results some might have expected of them this season so far, and were unlucky to go down to Arsenal in gameweek 5. Xherdan Shaqiri arrived from Inter Milan in the summer is getting up to the speed of the EPL, after previously performing at the highest levels in Germany, Italy and of course at the Fifa World Cup for Switzerland. He picked up an assists against Norwich and that’s the kind of form manager Mark Hughes will be expecting of his star players coming into Stoke’s excellent looking run of fixtures for September & October. Stoke’s next three matches see them play two newly promoted clubs at home in Leicester City (Home) and AFC Bournemouth (Home), then it’s Aston Villa (Away). If you’re a manager looking to stay one step ahead of the bandwagon, then we expect Xherdan Shaqiri to light up the to screens over the next two months.
