Top Player Tips
1) Bamidele “Dele” Alli £5.4m (Spurs)
If you’re looking for a cheaper midfielder who is in good form right now, then look no further than Tottenham Hotspur’s you English prodigy Bamidele Alli. Spurs signed the 19 year old from MK Dons in the January transfer window last year for £5 million. He scored 16 goals in League One last season, leading MK Dons to promotion and picking up the Young Player of the Year award in the process. Ordinary stepping up two divisions would be a steep learning curve for an player, but Alli has thrived in the EPL this season and make himself a first team regular for Spurs who it fourth in the table, just 6 points behind Arsenal. Alli has 5 goals and 5 assists in the Premier League this season, of those 3 goals & 2 assists have come since December. He’s the equal 10th highest scoring midfielder in the FPL game this season, at a fraction of the cost all the players above him. Ownership is at just 13% which is sure to rise, as well as his price, as FPL managers jump on the bandwagon – so get in while you can is our recommendation. Spurs are at home in Gameweek 21 to Leicester City, who they’ll be looking to make up points on as they push for the title and champions league places. Leicester are winless in their last 3 matches and look to be losing that momentum they had earlier in the season. Alli looks like a good value for money investment in the midfield.
2) Odion Ighalo £6.4m (Watford)
Our second player pick for gameweek 21 is Watford’s Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo. With 14 goals and 5 assists already this season, Ighalo should be no surprise to Fantasy League managers. Across November and December he went on a run of scoring in 6 consecutive EPL games, making him the 3rd most owned striker in the Fantasy Premier League this season. He’s no stranger to goals, having scored 20 in the Championship last season, he’s on track to beat that mark this season. And there are more goal to come, as Watford’s fixture list looks favorable during January. Watford face Southampton away in gameweek 21, followed by Swansea City (away) and then Newcastle Utd at home. Those are three clubs that have really struggled at times this season, and look ripe for more Ighalo magic. His cheaper price also makes him handy for FPL managers looking to work Agüero back into their team. More points on the way for Ighalo.
3) Dimitri Payet £7.7m (West Ham United)
Our final pick for gameweek 21 is one to keep an eye on as he returns from injury, it’s West Ham’s French midfielder Dimitri Payet. Payet got his season off to a flying start with 5 goals and 4 assists in the first 10 game-weeks before injury forced him to onto the physio table. He returned with a 27 minute cameo in West Ham’s 2-0 win over Liverpool in Gameweek 20. His price has been steadily falling from it’s high of £8.3 in November, and so is a good time to invest. It might take him a few weeks to gain that match sharpness, but well worth the 0.6m saved if he gets going again. West Ham’s next two matches are both away, first to Bournemouth, who sit in 16th, and then Newcastle who are 18th on the table. Both look like winnable games for West Ham, who are undefeated in their last 6 matches. Good matches for Payet to return with a bang!
