That is it for Fantasy EPL for 2015 following the conclusion of gameweek 19, but there is no time to rest as 2016 kicks off on January 2nd with gameweek 20. Gameweek 20 is also the first opportunity managers have to play their second wildcard for the season, which can be played at any time after 28 Dec 14:00 GMT. So this may be the perfect time to review the upcoming fixtures for gameweeks 20-30 and make some drastic improvements to your squads without incurring points deductions. Gameweek 19 saw Arsenal return to form with a win over Bournemouth thanks to a goal and assist from Mesut Özil. That win took Arsenal top of the table on Monday night. Elsewhere Everton and Stoke played out a 7 goal thriller in what could have been the match of the season (certainly more entertaining than Man Utd and Chelsea’s 0-0 draw). Transfers and team selections need to be finalized by 14:00 (GMT) on the 02nd of January, 2016. Lets have a look at our top player tips for gameweek 20 of the Fantasy Premier League.
Gameweek 20 Fixtures
Top Player Tips
1) Mesut Özil £9.9m (Arsenal)
Gameweek 20 will look like a wonderfully appetizing way to start 2016 for Arsenal’s standout player Mesut Özil, who enjoys the comfort of a second home game in a row entertaining 18th placed Newcastle United. Ozil has been in scintillating form this season, leading the league in assists (16) and also scoring 3 goals of his own including one in gameweek 19 against Bournemouth. It’s as if the little German maestro can do no wrong at the moment, and with him on set-piece duties has made it to 16 assists faster than any other player in Premier League history. Newcastle have been pretty horrible this season, and are coming off back-to-back 1-0 loses which hasn’t made for an enjoyable festive period for magpies fans. Traveling to London to face Arsenal & Ozil looks ominous for Newcastle, who have conceded 22 goals from their 9 away matches this season at a rate of 2.22 goals conceded per away match. They let in 6 away to Manchester City, and while we’re not picking a 6 goal drumming, the odds are stacking in Arsenal’s favour. Ozil was unavailable when these two teams met in gameweek 4 in Newcastle, which Arsenal won 1-0. Gameweek 20 looks like a great gameweek to pick Özil as a captain.
2) Marko Arnautovic £6.3m (Stoke City)
Our second player pick for gameweek 20 is Stoke’s Austrian winger Marko Arnautovic. Stoke have been ticking away this season and currently sit in 9th place on the EPL table. The squad that Mark Hughes has put together is the most impressive Stoke squad I can remember, including many players with European experience and most importantly flair. In gameweek 19 Stoke defeated Europe hopefuls Everton 4-3 in a spirited display in which Arnautovic picked up a goal and an assist. Stoke liked up with Bojan in a false 9 dropping back to collect the ball, which gave Arnautovic & Shaqiri license to push on and cut inside. Arnautovic now has 7 goals and 3 assists for the season so far, supplemented by his penalty duties. Gameweek 20 sees Stoke travel to 13th placed West Bromwich Albion, which will be another good challenge for them just like the 7 goal thriller at Goodison Park. Stoke are flying high after wins against Manchester United & Everton so they are full of confidence. Arnautovic is an ever present threat going forward, sometimes lacking that little bit of skill that his team mates bring, but his positioning and constant runs give him a good points potential coming into 2016.
3) Matteo Darmian £5.4m (Manchester United)
Our third and final pick for gameweek 20 is Manchester United’s returning Italian right back Matteo Darmian. Darmian returned from injury in gameweek 19 to help United earn a clean sheet and a share of the points against Chelsea. He has missed the previous 3 gameweeks, in which Manchester United failed to keep a clean sheet. Manchester United lead the league in clean sheets this, with 10 clean sheets from their 19 matches. Darmian has featured in 9 of those 10 clean sheets, so he is a key piece of their defensive lineup so his return to the starting eleven is a welcome boost to the under fire Louis van Gaal. Gameweeks 20 & 21 look like they have clean sheets written on them for united, facing Swansea City (Home) followed by Newcastle Utd (Away). Swansea & Newcastle have the 2nd & fourth worst attack in the Premier League, with Swansea averaging just 0.78 goals per away game this season. At £5.4m Darmian makes him a bargain compared to teammate Chris Smalling at £6.8m and his ownership is far lower at just 8.2% and likely to rise throughout the next two gameweeks.
