What a feast of football we had this boxing day with an entire gameweek played out in matter of hours, which included 3 goals from our top player tips for Gameweek 18. Losses to Manchester United, high flying Leicester City and Arsenal showed once again how unpredictable the Premier League season has been. The big winners of the round were Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne with a goal and 2 assist, as well as two goals a piece from Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Southampton’s Shane Long. Amazingly Watford now sit atop the Premier League Form Table with 4 wins and a draw from their last 5 matches. Fantasy EPL managers don’t get caught out thinking that’s it for 2015, as there is a short turnaround to Gameweek 19 which will kickoff on Monday (UK time). All transfers and team selections need to be finalized by 14:00 (GMT) on the 28th of December, 2015. The standout fixture of the round looks to be Manchester United vs Chelsea, which sees two big clubs who are low on confidence and struggling for form fight it out. It could potentially be Louis Van Gaal’s last match in charge of Manchester United if you believe the UK press, or spark a run to the title. Here are our top player tips for gameweek 19 of the Fantasy Premier League.
Gameweek 19 Fixtures
Top Player Tips
1) Yaya Touré £8.5m (Manchester City)
Our first player pick for gameweek 19 is Manchester City’s midfield muscle in Yaya Touré. Toure is starting to find the kind of form that made him one of the top Fantasy League players just a few years ago. In the 2013–14 season Toure scored 20 goals in the EPL (impressive for a midfielder), leading Manchester City to the title that year. He delivered 10 goals last season, in what was a relatively lean return. But with goals in both gameweeks 17 & 18, Toure is starting to find that goal scoring form again – and as are Manchester City who, after putting four past Sunderland, have scored the most goal in the Premier League this season (37, equal with Leicester). Manchester City’s next two matches find them away from home against two high flying newly promoted clubs, first against Leicester City in gameweek 19 and then on to Watford to start off 2016. Leicester City are coming off a loss to ‘full throttle’ Liverpool on boxing day, while Manchester City cruised to a 4-1 victory, so this will be a big ask for Leicester to back up against another big club. Perhaps a more obvious choice for this fixture would be Kevin De Bruyne, who is forming an electric connection with David Silva. But Yaya Toure’s ownership is much lower 14% vs 26% and he’s £2.3m cheaper with just 7 points less than De Bruyne which makes him much better value for money. Rotation is also a factor throughout the festive season, so watch out investing in Manchester City’s attack in gameweeks 19 & 20.
2) Harry Kane £9.7m (Tottenham Hotspurs)
Our second player pick for gameweek 19 is once again England and Tottenham forward Harry Kane. Kane is just a beast over the festive period, and picked up tow goals in gameweek 18 to take his tally to 11 EPL goals for the season so far. As we finish 2015, Kane has scored 27 goals in the Premier League this calendar year, more than any other player! Last new year Kane led the Spurs team that thumped champions Chelsea, so we may well see more of that this season. Spurs have two away games on the trot now, but it’s still a good looking run of fixtures including: Watford (Away), Everton (Away), Leicester City (Home), Sunderland (Home). Their gameweek 19 opponent are newly promoted Watford, which is not a straight forward match as Watford are the form team in the league and have a good home record this season.
3) Laurent Koscielny £6.0m (Arsenal)
Our third and final pick for the gameweek is Arsenal’s French center back Laurent Koscielny. Arsene Wenger will roll out the rotation following their 4-0 defeat at Southampton on Boxing Day. But Koscielny is one player we can’t see getting rotated out, and Arsenal now head for two home matches at the Emirates. Those tow home matches are against AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United, placed 14th and 18th in the league table. Arsenal will be looking for a quick response after the loss to the Saints, so expect them to be fired up and put on an exhibition in front of their howe fans. Arsenal have the 4th best home defense in the EPL, conceding just 6 goals from their 8 home league matches this season at a rate of 0.75 goals per game. With two home matches, a clean sheet looks on the cards for Arsenal. Koscielny also carries a goal threat from set pieces, having scored two goal this season for Arsenal already.
