Merry Christmas fantasy football fans and wow, what an amazing EPL season to date. Who would have predicted that Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City would be top of the Premier League table at Christmas coming into Gameweek 18, and the incredible form of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. Leicester will surely have cheques being thrown at them for their services come the January transfer window, but if they keep their team together then who know how far they can go. Arsenal moved up to second on the table, just two points behind Leicester after a moral boosting win against Manchester City. It’s a huge boost for Arsenal to beat one of the big guns, and with Mesut Ozil in sizzling form have notched up 15 league assists to date, they must fancy themselves to push on for the title in 2016. Looking ahead at the festive schedule, every EPL team will play on boxing day (December 26th), closely followed by gameweek 19 on the 28th of December, and then gameweek 20 on January 2nd. Fantasy League manager are going to want to have a fully site squad of starters as theirs going to be a fair amount of player rotation given the tight set of 3 fixtures per team. All transfers and team selections need to be finalized by 11:45am (GMT) on the 26th of December, 2015. Here are our top player tips for gameweek 18 of the Fantasy Premier League.
Gameweek 18 Fixtures
|Aston Villa||vs||West Ham|
Top Player Tips
1) Harry Kane £9.7m (Tottenham Hotspurs)
Our first player pick for gameweek 18 is Spurs & England striker Harry Kane. Kane has had a quite understated season to date, failing to hit the heights of last season, but still with 9 goals to his name is a healthy return from 18 gameweeks. Kane picked up a goal against Southampton last game out, which will act as a nice confidence booster going into the festive season. Last new year Kane was part of the Spurs team that thumped champions Chelsea, so it’s a time of the year where Kane has historically done well. (Being English at all, it does help). Spurs have a fantastic looking run of fixtures coming up, avoiding all the traditional big champions league clubs, with their next 5 matches being: Norwich City (Home), Watford (Away), Everton (Away), Leicester City (Home), Sunderland (Home). Their gameweek 18 opponent Norwich City have the third worst away defense in the EPL, having conceded 19 goals in their 9 away games in the league this season at a rate of conceding 2.11 goals per game. Our tip is for Kane to capitalize on that leaky defense and get on the score sheet.
2) Aaron Cresswell £5.5m (West Ham)
Our second tip for Gameweek 18 is West Ham’s attacking fullback Aaron Cresswell. The Hammers have picked up clean sheets in each of their last 3 matches, all 0-0 draws having contained Swansea, Stoke and Manchester United. Those results coincided with the return to midfield of former Arsenal & Barcelona anchor Alexandre Song. West Ham are holding onto their position in the top third of the table, currently sitting 8th and just 4 points off the top four Champions League places. They take that fine defensive form to last placed Aston Villa in Gameweek 18. Villa have the equal worst attack in the EPL, having scored just 14 goals from their 17 league matches this season. So a nice 6 pointer at the back looks good odds from Cresswell this gameweek, and his attacking play also makes him a chance a goal or assist having setup 3 goals this season so far.
3) Romelu Lukaku £9.3m (Everton)
And lastly, our third and final player tip for gameweek 18 is Everton’s red hot Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku has been absolutely unstoppable for the past two months. He has scored at least 1 goal in every league match for Everton since October, that’s 8 goals in 7 gameweeks. His haul of 13 goals and 4 assists make him the third highest points scorer in the Fantasy Premier League this season – and only Jamie Vardy has scored more league goals than him. Gameweek 18 sees Everton on an away trip up to 17th placed Newcastle. Newcastle have conceded the second most goal this season, while Everton have scored the third most for. So this one is looking like it has goals written all over it, and Lukaku will be trying to make this his 8th straight Premier League match in a row that he has scored a goal.
