After midweek Champions League action, the English Premier League Gameweek 16 is back this weekend. Manchester United at home to Liverpool looks to be the stand out match of the round. Changes for Gameweek 16 need to be finalized by 11:30am (GTM) on the 13th of December. Lets analyse the top picks for Gameweek 16 for Fantasy Premier League managers:
Key News for Gameweek 16
– Sergio Aguero is injured. Aaron Ramsey is injured.
– Charlie Austin, Cesc Fabregas, Calum Chambers, Lukasz Fabianski, Steven Taylor all serving suspensions.
1) Yaya Toure £10.7m (Tottenham)
With Sergio Aguero getting injured in Gameweek 15, Manchester City will need the big Ivorian midfielder to step it up a gear in order to continue their fight for the Premier League title. With an inflated price tag from last years heroics, Toure was a real slow starter this season. His price dropped from £11m to £10.6m in the first 9 gameweeks. But with 3 goals and an assist in his last 5 Premier League matches, he is at last starting to find the form of old. In fact this season Yaya Toure is 6th for shots on goal in the league, the most by any midfielder (even more than Alexis Sanchez). So he’s still getting into those attacking positions, it’s just his radar and finishing is not quite up to scratch this season. Another plus for Manchester City is that their remaining games for 2014 are all against teams in the bottom half of the table. Their fixtures list is Leicester (Away), Crystal Palace (Home), West Brom (A), Burnley (H) and then Sunderland (Home) on new years day. A nice run in. Their midweek fixtures against Roma will determine their Champions League fate. Do keep in mind that Yaya Toure will be taking part in the African Cup of Nations which takes place between January 17 and February 8 2015, meaning he’ll be unavailable for Premier League.
2) Papiss Demba Cissé £5.7m (Newcastle)
Newcastle are one of the form teams in the Premier League right now, having only lost 1once in their past 9 league matches. Alan Pardew has managed to hold onto his job after a bad start to the season, but they have not looked back since their first league win in October. Pardew is rotating is squad regularly, with the likes of Cabella, Cisse, Ameobi, Ayoze provided an attacked threat for parts of matches. Papiss has been nursed back from injury but has still managed to amass 7 goals and an assist in his limited playing time this season. In fact his 7 goals in 9 league appearances means he has a better goals per minute ratio than Sergio Aguero, averaging a goal ever 66 mins vs Aguero’s 75 minutes. If Newcastle continue their good form then Papiss Demba Cissé will be in the goals up front.
3) Stewart Downing £6.1m (West Ham United)
We gave Downing a plug at the last international break which cam just has he was drawing attention for the England team. After over coming a knock, he’s back to his best for West Ham in his free attacking role behind the West Ham strikers.
Downing now has 6 assists in the Premier League this season, including two in his last two matches. He has completed the most successful crosses from open play and also takes set pieces for West Ham. The return of the man mountain Andy Carroll will give Downing a nice target for his crosses in the coming matches. Gameweek 16 sees West Ham, who moved to third on the Premier League table on Sunday, travel away to Sunderland before returning to the capital for a home match against Leicester City in Gameweek 17. Both are in the lower half of the table, so look like good matches for West Ham to score more goals and continue their good run of form.
