Well congratulations are in order for Chelsea, who won the League Cup final over the weekend against Spurs. It was their first trophy under Jose Mourinho’s second spell in charge of Chelsea. It was also a great day for them in the league too, as Manchester City slipped up against Liverpool, who continued their impressive second half of the season form and pushed up to fifth place on the table. Now it’s time for Gameweek 28, and it’s a quick mid-week round of fixture. Changes to your Fantasy Premier League Team for Gameweek 28 need to be finalized by the 19:30am (GMT) on the 3rd February. So don’t get caught out without making any changes! Lets check out our top tips for Gameweek 28 for Fantasy Premier League managers:
Double Gameweek (Double Kaneweek)
It’s that time, the time we have all been waiting for – Double Gameweek. Yes, for those managers who still have their Wildcards on play, this may be one for you. And even if you don’t you can still get in on the big potential for points. There are 11 matches scheduled for Gameweek 28, with Spurs and QPR both playing twice. So with that in mind, you may want to think about making any free transfers in to maximise your return from those two matches.
1) Harry Kane £6.2m (Spurs)
You can’t really look past the big Englishman for Gameweek 28 – which we’re going to call Double Kane Week. He has been simply lethal since he broke into the Spurs team earlier this year. Although Kane drew a blank in the League Cup final against Chelsea last weekend, Kane has scored 6 goals in his last 4 Premier League matches. He has 10 goals in 9 Premier League matches since Christmas, and 14 goals and 6 assists in the league this season in total. Only Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa have more goals than Kane, and he’s going to have 180 more minutes to add to that tally this weekend. Spurs’ first matches is at home to Swansea, who are on a two game wining steak having beaten Manchester United and Burnley. In the reverse fixture Spurs won 2-1 at home, with Harry Kane scoring a goal there. Spur’s second match is away to 17th placed Queens Park Rangers. With Spurs looking to push for a Europa League spot this season, it’s a match they should be winning. In the reverse leg back in August Spurs scored 4 goals against a leaky QPR defense. So there are goals there for Harry.
2) Christian Eriksen £8.4m (Spurs)
Yes, you guessed it. Our second pick is again another Spurs player as we look to take advantage of the double gameweek. Eriksen has evolved his role at Spurs this season. Last year Eriksen had a fantastic second half of the season, once he has settled in to the Premier league, and finished with 7 goals and 9 assists. A ratio that shows he was clearly contributing goal scoring opportunities to his teammates, over taking them himself. Will this season Eriksen already has 9 goals to his name, but only 2 assists. Eriksen has now taken on more of the burden for scoring goals for Tottenham – with a string of impressive ‘at the death’ goals that have salvaged points for Spurs. His free kicks are also something special, and was unlucky not to get a goal in the League Cup Final against Chelsea when his curved free kick hit the bar. Eriksen is the 6th highest point scores in the FPL this season and is a constant threat for points. And free kicks in attacking areas could see Eriksen bag some more goals.
3) Charlie Austin £6.3m (QPR)
Our third and final pick is another English striker who has lit up the Premier League this season and has a double Gameweek – Charlie Austin. Austin’s form has taken a dip of late, with the departure of manager Harry Redknapp and a niggling injury surly contributing factors. But a headed goal in gameweek 26 against Hull put Austin back on the score sheet once again, as he looks to rediscover his magic touch. Austin has 14 goals for the Premier League season so far – but 9 of those 14 have come at home, and both QPR’s Gameweek 28 matches are at home, and both are London derbies! First they face a Arsenal on Wednesday night, followed by Spurs on the weekend. Both are tricky fixtures that I wouldn’t expect QPR to win, but Austin’s home form is outstanding – so he’s a good change to steal a few goals..
