For fans of the English Premier League, you may recall that Barry spend last season on load at Everton FC, was a free agent this summer after his contract Manchester City had expired. Roberto Martinez was eager to make him an Everton player, after a successful season where he brought experience and defensive grit to a youthful midfield. This transfer was one of the more predictable deals of the summer, given that Barry’s contract was up and the successful spell he enjoyed last season. (though the queue of takers was probable not the longest in the world)

This is a very interesting and good transfer for Fantasy Premier League players, despite he fact that Barry himself is not often up there in the points given his defensive ‘holding midfield’ role ahead of the center backs. However his signing is good news for Everton defenders who will once again benefit from his shielding play.
Last season with Barry breaking down opposition attacks, Everton managed 15 clean sheets and conceded only 39 goals (only Chelsea (27) and Manchester City (27) conceded fewer goals. And it was not just last season, Everton under David Moyes was consistently in the top four clubs with the most clean sheets during the last few seasons. So this deal makes the likes of Phil Jagielka look like a bargain option. It also adds a little more safety to the big investments of Everton fullbacks Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines. Both of those two players picked up plenty of goals and assists last season, so the extra security that a quality holding midfielder like Barry brings to adding more clean sheets is a positive sign.
