After a cracking Gameweek 26 and another set of midweek Champions League matches, 16 Premier League teams will be lining up for Gameweek 27 this weekend. Gameweek 26 saw the return of Yaya Toure and it instantly delivered a boost to Manchester City who put 5 goals past Newcastle United and reduced Chelsea’s lead at the top of the table to 5 points after Burnley manage to steal a draw at Stamford Bridge. West Bromwich Albion picked up their 10th clean sheet of the season, and Manchester United slipped up at Swansea. Changes to your Fantasy Premier League Team for Gameweek 27 need to be finalized by the 11:30am (GMT) on the 28th February. Lets check out our top tips for Gameweek 27 for Fantasy Premier League managers:
This weekend we’ll have the League Cup final between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. This means neither team is available to play their matches for Gameweek 27, which would have seen Chelsea taking on Leicester and Spurs taking on QPR. The net result is that all four of those teams do not have a Gameweek 27 match. So be sure to pick your Captain and starting 11 accordingly, not including players from those 4 teams this weekend. Those two matches will be made up in the future, the first of which is Spurs vs QPR which will occur as an extra fixture in Gameweek 28. This means both Spurs and QPR have a double match gameweek in Gameweek 28. So you could plan ahead for this, and roll over free transfers so you can capitalise on Spurs & QPR players then. Chelsea and Leicester will makeup their game in a double gameweek 34.
1) Ryan Bertrand £5.7m (Southampton)
After serving his 3 match suspension for a red card against Swansea in Gameweek 23, Bertrand returns to provide Southampton a welcome boost at the back for Gameweek 27. Southampton were very unlucky last weekend Liverpool, Coutinho scored a stunner from distance and Southampton had to go chasing goals despite several shouts for penalties. Despite letting in those two goals at Liverpool, the Saints still have the best defense in the Premier League, having conceded only 19 goals and managing 12 clean sheets along the way. Bertrand is their first choice left-back and will add solidarity and attacking width on the overlap against their Gameweek 27 opponents West Bromwich Albion. Yes the Tony Pulis show continues after West Bromwich managed their 10th clean sheet of the season against Sunderland last weekend. There is just something about Pulis that motivates his teams to give everything to keep the goals out. The fact that only Southampton and Chelsea have more clean sheets in the league than West Brom shows you that when they park the bus, there is no way through. So Gameweek 27 sees two teams who are busing from the back with defensive grit clash at the Hawthorns. This one have clean sheet written all over it. Looking further ahead, Gameweek 28 sees Southampton at home to Crystal Palace. That’s again another good chance of a clean sheet.
2) Ángel Di María £9.6m (Manchester United)
Our second pick for Gameweek 27 is for those managers with Chelsea midfielders who are looking for a quick swap to earn some points. Manchester United have beeb playing some pretty average football this season. For all the money spent over the summer, the team is just not gelling, they are not playing free flowing football. And yet, despite this easily observed disfunction – Manchester United sit fourth on the Premier League table and have the joy of resting midweek while their upper-table rivals duke it out in Europe. It might also be surprising to hear that Manchester United’s Argentina star Ángel Di María has quietly crept his way up to have the second most assists in the Premier League with 10, only Cesc Fabregas has more with 15. So while Manchester huff and puff, it is Di Maria who is racking up the points for them since his return from injury. Di Maria 4 assists in his last 4 Premier League matches for United. Gameweek 27 sees United at home to 16th placed Sunderland, and then it’s back home to face Newcastle United, who were spanked 5 – 0 in Manchester by City last weekend. Both those matches look like the kind that Manchester should be winning, and to be honest need to win, in order to keep the pace for a Champions League spot for next season. So Di Maria looks a good attacking option going into the reduced gameweek.
3) Jordon Ibe £4.4m (Liverpool)
Our third pick for the week is the budget option in midfield, if you’re looking to get an extra starter into your 11 due to the reduced gameweek. At £4.4m it’s hard to find a better alternative to complement your squad. Ibe has been lighting up the right wing for Liverpool the past few weeks, with eye catching performances against the likes of Everton and Southampton. Both Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher have been talking the young englishman up. His speed and dribbling skills are a real asset and if he can form an understanding with Sterling and Sturridge, then he’ll be able to bag some points as the season goes on. Ibe began the season on load to Championship team Derby County, where he put in some great performances and picked up 5 goals and 1 assists. Ibe was then recalled from his load the thrust into the spotlight for the mersey side derby. Liverpool are at home for Gameweek 27 and 28, against Manchester City and Burnley respectively. Not easy games, but this young man has some potential. And his ownership and price is only going to rise.
