While some clubs have had 10 days of training drills and rest, others have been busy with FA Cup matches and midweek Champions League duties. But all clubs are back for Gameweek 26 of the Fantasy Premier League this weekend. The big guy, Diego Costa, is back for Chelsea – that’s sure to get the attention of some FPL Managers. Changes for Gameweek 26 need to be finalized by the 11:30am (GMT) on the 21th February. Lets check out our top tips for Gameweek 26 for Fantasy Premier League managers:
1) Phil Jagielka £5.5m (Everton)
Have Everton finally sorted out their usually reliable defense? It certainly looks that way, at long last. Everton managed 3 clean sheets on the bounce in Gameweeks 22-24, their best defensive run of the season, and only came unstuck to current top of the table leaders Chelsea at the death after a red card. Everton are currently sitting 12th on the table, but only 5 points from the relegation places, so they’ll be looking to crack down and keep things tight for the remaining 13 Premier League matches of the season. Their recent defensive form is encouraging enough, and with a boost of Leighton Baines expected to return to the first team. Gameweek 26 sees Everton at home to bottom of the table Leicester City. Leicester have lost their past 4 matches and look destined for relegation. If Everton continue their improved form at the back, this looks like a good Clean Sheet opportunity for Everton.
2) Mesut Ozil £9.1m (Arsenal)
Our second pick for Gameweek 26 is Arsenal’s German world cup winner Mesut Ozil. Ozil has has a pretty quite season to day, mainly due to a long spell out injured. But before that, he still didn’t have that zip about him that he did at Real Madrid. But in his last few matches, you can see he’s back – and hungry for the ball and to score goals. Ozil has 2 goals and 3 assists from his last 3 Premier League matches – all coming in the calendar month of February. Arsenal have scored 13 goals in the their past 5 Premier League games, which shows you that they are an attacking force at the moment. This weekend Arsenal travel to Selhurst Park to face Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace, who sit 13th on the table. Away to Crystal Palace is never an easy match, with their ruckus fans and improved form since Pardew took change. But this fixture looks like one you can expect goals in from Arsenal on their current form.
3) Branislav Ivanovic £7.3m (Chelsea)
Our third pick for the week is once again Chelsea right back Branislav Ivanovic. The man is just a machine both in attack and defense. Ivanovic picked up another goal midweek, this time a headed effort in the Champions League against PSG. It’s those attacking runs, in combination with Chelsea’s resilient defense, that has seen Ivanovic so many points this season. He now has the same points tally as Sergio Agüero, who is valued £5.5m more than Ivanovic. (You’d be made to have Sergio but no Branislav). What’s more, you can expect to see more points coming his way, the way Chelsea are playing at the moment. Gameweek 27 sees Chelsea at home to 19th placed Burnley. Chelsea have only let in 4 goals at home in the Premier League this season, which has led them to 9 home clean sheets (only 3 away). Chelsea will be tired from their midweek Champions League match, and I’m sure Jose Mourinho will look to rotate his squad to keep things fresh. But while Kurt Zouma and Filipe Luis will slot straight into the back line, you can expect Ivanovic to hold his spot at right back. One thing to watch out for is to not get too overloaded on Chelsea & Tottenham players, as they will both be missing matches during Gameweek 28 (to be made up later in the season). So do ensure you plan ahead and ensure you have subs that can come into your starting 11 and pick up points for you in that round. But Gameweek 26 looks like home clean sheet number 10 for Chelsea.
